11 Feb Startup Jalsa – Invest Edition
The startup ecosystem of India is no longer as we knew it a couple of years ago. It is more aware and more powerful and stands sturdy in the world’s startup ecosystem, which also reflected at Startup Jalsa, Invest Edition 2018. This year, we moved to land with serene air, rolling meadows and spellbinding views of the snow-clad mountains – Dharamshala, also known for being the holy residence of Dalai Lama. The attendees were welcomed at The Pavilion by HPCA on Dec 13th,‘18 with a Himachali folk dance – Nati, followed up by a Retro Night accompanied with drinks and soothing old music.
“The biggest belief that you have to have, is in yourself, that you’ll make it someday. Because each day is a fight.”, said Arvind R Vohra and kick-started the conference on Dec 14th,’18 along with Sumit Jain, Co-Founder – CommonFloor and CEO – Opentalk and Nitin Narang in the opening panel, Festival Director – Startup Jalsa and Founder – The Ideaz Factory
The opening session was followed up by a number of exciting panel discussions. The discussions varied from ‘Founders getting lost in the media frenzy’ to ‘Storytelling and Virality 101 for startups’. These discussions catered to the need of opening up about real issues and concerns of new-age, innovative startups. A Q&A followed every panel discussion wherein the founders could put their queries or problems upfront and get on the spot solutions or answers.
Sattvik Mishra, Founder – ScoopWhoop, Rohan Thakur, Founder – Ronnie and Barty – A Mountain Film Co., Arvind R Vohra, Executive Director – Gionee India, Megha Vishwanath, Correspondent – CNBC TV18, Sorabh Pant, Founder – East India Company, , and Rahul Singh, Founder & CEO – The Beer Café & President NRAI, The Beer Café were some top-notch CEOs who were parts of the panels. The founders interacted one-on-one with the investors in the Khopcha Sessions. The final pitching started after the panel discussions. The day came to an end with delectable delights and drinks at Night Summit.
The final day started with Startup Jalsa Cricket League, where Investors XI and Startups XI played against each other in good spirit at HPCA International Cricket Stadium, Dharamshala. The match came to an end with Sumit Jain, scooping the ‘Man Of The Match’ award, Annu Grover, Founder – Nurturing Green receiving the ‘Super Catch’ award and Manit Narang winning the ‘Super Six’ award.
The cricket teams were welcomed back and treated with a delicious Himachali Dham followed by the final showdown at The Pitch Room. On one hand, the founders were interacting with the top-notch CEOs during the Q&A session and on another hand, the most powerful ideas and prototypes were being pitched to the prestigious jury panel. The hectic day was eased with a light-hearted comedy show by Sorabh Pant.
Anurag Thakur, Member of Parliament and Former President – BCCI, Shailesh Vickram Singh, Founder – Massive Fund, Former Executive Director – SeedFund.in, Amit Bhalla, Vice President – Manav Rachna Educational Institutions and Rahul Narvekar, Co-Founder – Fashion and You, CEO – The India Network gave some powerful pieces of advice to the startups present at the closing ceremony.
As envisioned, the conference turned out to be much more than just about money, it was about sharing experiences, it was about pitching the best one can pitch and making the most out of it, it was about ideating, inspiring and investing.
