This year, Startup Jalsa started its journey to find the next Walmart of India on 20th Sept, ‘18. With the motive of fuelling innovation, we decided to search for it in every nook and cranny of the country, and Chennai became our 1st stop.
IIT Madras, Chennai:
IIT Madras was glazed with startups from varied sectors like agriculture, hardware, education, fashion, and healthcare, who pitched their prototypes. Darshan Kumar, Chennai Angels, was invited to judge the startups and select the best among them
IIT Hyderabad, Hyderabad:
From road safety to lithium batteries, Hyderabad proved its mettle as a city of brilliant minds with the startups showing from diverse sectors. The pitch session was held on 22nd Sept,’18 with Rakesh Bhatia, CEO – TheCapitalNet as a panelist.
IIT Bombay, Mumbai:
On 26th Sept, ’18, 25+ startups pitched their prototypes and ideas to Rahul Narvekar and Monalisa Sagar, Director, Dezine Display Solutions. The speaker, Rahul Narvekar, Co-Founder -Fashion and You and CEO – The India Network narrated his story of getting funded and the struggle he went through when he needed help and almost everyone on his list turned him down. The narration was followed up by the Pitch Session.
IIM Calcutta, Kolkata:
The pitching session held at IIM Calcutta on 3rd Oct, ‘18 started at 3 pm, with 20+ startups from AI to agritech pitching their prototypes and ideas to the jury panel. Following the Pitch Session and the Q&A session, the startups had one-on-one interaction with Manish Dalmia, President of MLD Group and Rahul Narvekar, wherein the startups talked about their startups
Startup Oasis, Jaipur:
The prototypes varying from agri-tech to ed-tech to mobile application were showcased on 5th Oct 2018 at the pitch session held at Startup Oasis. The interesting mix of startups that came from different spaces filled the event with distinct energy.
IIT Delhi, Delhi:
The pitch session held at IIT Delhi on 8th Oct, ‘18, started with a speakers-startups conversation. 45+ prototypes and ideas were pitched to the jury member – Vineet Narang – Co-Founder, Mobiquest. TravelTech, HealthTech, FinTech, and FoodTech were the major spaces tapped by the startups who came to IIT Delhi.
IIT Kanpur, Kanpur:
35+ startups pitched their prototypes and ideas to the Jury on. Automobile, AgriTech, e-commerce and health tech were the major spaces tapped by Kanpur. The pitches were critically analyzed and the startups were questioned regarding various factors, starting from their need for investment to their relevance in the market.
IIM Ahmedabad, Ahmedabad:
20+ startups pitched their power at CIIE-IIM Ahmedabad on 12th Oct, ’18. IOT, TravelTech, and HealthTech were the major spaces tapped by Ahmedabad. Sarbvir Singh, Managing Partner WaterBridge Ventures, Former Managing Director Capital18 and Sumit Jain, CEO Opentalk, Co-Founder CommonFloor ended the pitch session by giving tips and tricks to startups to improvise and excel in pitching and getting the idea through.
After our roadshow in 8 cities, Bengaluru became our 9th and the final stop for the Pitch Sessions of Startup Jalsa 2018. The event was held at CoWrks, Bengaluru on 13th Oct,’18. Yogesh Kumar, Former Director of Tejas, India’s indigenous Fighter Plane, was the speaker for the session. Startups coming from Edtech and FoodTech space became the focus at the pitch session with their powerful pitches.
In 2018 Pitch sessions, we saw a lot of amazing prototypes and a heard a lot of fantastic ideas. The best ones flew to Dharamsala for the main conference – Startup Jalsa, Invest Edition 2018.
